U.S. NAVY ORDERS DIVER SONARS FOR EOD USE

RJE International has been awarded contacts from ADS Inc. to supply forty PQS-2A sonar to the U.S. Navy for use on mine recovery and salvage. Used by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Divers, the PQS-2A is a non-magnetic diver operated sonar that allows the operator to located objects, as small as a 12 inch cylinder, up to 120 yards away. In addition, the PQS-2A has a passive mode that allows the recovery of acoustic beacons, similar to the ones used on aircraft “Black Boxes”.

Introduced to the military market in the mid-1980, the PQS-2A has been used by military divers around the world to keep harbors and waterways free of mines. With hundreds in service worldwide, the PQS-2A and its counter part, the exportable DLS-2A sonar and DLS-1 trainer sonar are the most commonly used diver sonars in the world.
